A Pathway of Treasures

SCHOOL'S SHOW

25 November 2024 - 16 February 2025

Ten local primary schools have participated in a series of workshops with artists Jo Ogier, Janet de Wagt and Jacqueline Byars. They are East Gore, Pukerau, Waikaka, West Gore, St Mary’s, Knapdale, Te Tipua, Mataura, Tuturau, and Riversdale.

The workshops were in response to the Gallery’s current exhibition, He Wai Apakura – Te Ara Pounamu, The River’s Lament – A Pathway of Treasures, by prominent botanical and wildlife artist Jo Ogier.

Drawing inspiration from the freshwater, bird and insect species that Jo Ogier has illustrated in her exhibition, the children have created their own 2D and 3D wildlife artworks using a variety of materials and techniques. The finished scene colourfully
illustrates just some of the many species of flora and fauna that once defined Māruawai and the wider Mataura River Valley.
