Grass by Len Lye
When venturing near the Ralph Hotere Gallery, you could be forgiven for thinking a certain ‘swishing sound’ is marram grass in a sea breeze. Close - it’s actually the gentle movement of fine stainless steel ‘Grass’ on a kinetic sculpture of the same name. We are delighted to have this 1961 work by celebrated expatriate Len Lye on regular display in Gore. Our grateful thanks go to David and Libby Richwhite for making this happen, and the Gallery’s old friend Cyril Wright for all his technical support.
